Soot filter

Diesel particulate filter, or soot filter. Filter in the exhaust system of a diesel engine through which the gas flows and which captures the small solid particles (PM10) present in the gas. These are stored in the filter substrate and, if the conditions in the filter are right, burned off (regenerated). This regeneration can be actively initiated by, for example, diesel injection, a glow spiral or a burner, or passively once the exhaust gas temperature is high enough.
