Exhaust muffler
Component in the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine or gas turbine that reduces the vibration energy of the exhaust noise. This lowers the level of perceived exhaust noise and makes it less harmful to the observer. Industrial silencers are often designated by their attenuation value (intermediate attenuation, insertion loss). Commonly used versions are, for example, 25 dB(A), 35 dB(A), and 45 dB(A) silencers.
